This week, my area is going to be hit by not one but two winter storms, so it is the perfect time to bust out the cozy winter reads. I think a snowy reading day is better than a rainy reading day. It is just so magical! It can make any book better to read while you’re under a heated blanket, wearing fuzzy socks, and staring at the snowy landscape outside. So here are my top 5 winter reads/rereads.
1. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Twilight is a classic cold weather read. Depressed Bella and even more depressed Edward will cheer you up as you read about their timeless, but insane love story set in gloomy, rainy Forks. Bonus points for reading New Moon and flipping through the almost blank pages of Bella’s Edwardless depressive episode, it is the perfect time of year to relate. Pro Tip: Pay attention to what Bella is wearing for an extra boost of serotonin.
2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling
The first Harry Potter book is a masterpiece in fun and cozy. It is the most light-hearted of the seven and the reader gets to experience the joys and wonders of discovering magic right alongside Harry. Plus, the Christmas that Harry and Ron spend in the castle is so cozy and adorable! Somebody buy me a Weasley sweater.
3. Measure of a Man by Inadaze22
Is this a Dramione fic? Yes. Do I care that it is not a real book? No. This book does not necessarily take place in the winter, but it’s all about family, love, and where home really is. It is also really long, a fantastic slow burn perfect for those cold winter days where you just want to do nothing. In the fic, Hermione works for the Malfoy’s as Narcissa’s healer and has to change her own preconceived notions of the family, especially Draco as she sees him as a son and a father. (It’s so cute, you have to read it)
4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
This book is beautifully written. It is about a magical circus that arrives unannounced and is only open at night. Two magician apprentices, who have not met, are locked in competition of magical creations, falling in love as they view and seek to outdo each other’s masterpieces. The book is mysterious and there is no other book like it. While it does sort of have to do with winter, it is more the vibes that make it a cozy read- I highly recommend.
5. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Of course Little Women is going to be on this list. What is cozier than a family growing and learning being kind to people on Christmas with snow on the ground? Sisters who love eachother but also disagree and have dreams and passions and desires. There are heartfelt moments, sad moments, frustrating moments, and I just want to be a March! It is perfect for a snowy day read.
Really, any book would be good to curl up with on a cozy, snowy day but these are some of my favorites! Honorable Mentions: HOCKEY ROMANCES!
